Sameer Nigam was born in the year 1978. Sameer Nigam currently lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka. They have made their way from Noida to Mumbai and then finally to Bengaluru. This is also the headquarters of his company PhonePe. His venture got a tremendous boost from the demonetization policy, which was announced by the Government of India in the same launching year of PhonePe.

Sameer Nigam has completed his formal education from DPS Noida. Thereafter, Sameer Nigam enrolled in the University of Mumbai to pursue an engineering degree in computers. He did his Master of Science at the University of Arizona to further study computer engineering. He later completed his studies in Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.

After completing his studies, Sameer Nigam worked as the Director of Search Product Development at ShopClues from the year 2021 to June 2007. He then launched his venture Mime360 in the year 2009, which is an online social media distribution channel. The company was later acquired by Flipkart.

In the year 2009, Sameer Nigam launched his first venture Mime360. Which was an online media distribution channel. Whose headquarter is in Mumbai India. The company provides an exchange platform to connect content owners with content publishers including Saregama Indiatimes and others.

Mime360’s security is aided by API feeds that help prevent piracy and allow a large number of publishers to sell licensed content globally. Most importantly, Mime eliminates various infrastructure costs for partners including content management, storage and local data center bandwidth and empowers content owners to set regional pricing.

Mime360 was acquired by Flipkart. The e-commerce giant was looking to acquire smaller companies to grow the team. After the acquisition, some of Mime360’s employees later joined Flipkart to start a digital music distribution service. Sameer Nigam launched his Unified Payments Interface (UPI) based startup PhonePe in December 2015. He went on to become the founder and CEO of the Bangalore headquarter. He is a member of the board of directors at the company and advises on marketing and various other strategies.

Sameer along with two of his friends, Rahul Chari and Burgein Engineer, came up with the idea of designing an online payment system based on UPI. PhonePe application went live in August 2016. Where in more than 11 Indian languages were made available for the user.

PhonePe was acquired by Flipkart in the year 2016. However, the e-commerce giant came under the ownership of US-based Walmart Inc in 2018, valuing it at $16 billion. PhonePe was acquired with the aim of expanding its online shopping footprint in India.
